A: In the transportation industry many companies only quote their customers the base rate over the phone and then, when the customer calls back to book their trip, the company surprises them with a 20% service fee. The 20% service fee is an amount comprised of all the extras that you do not pay for in the hourly rate of renting the vehicle. This sometimes includes but is not limited to: cleaning/detailing fees, champagne flutes w/napkins, ice, administration fees, booking fees, licensing/franchising fees, airport fees, tolls, fuel surcharges, and any “complimentary” items provided by the company.
When renting from any type of livery service you should ask about additional charges up front. If they are not forthcoming or cannot tell you what the charges are for you may be overcharged for your rental.
